Pasir Salak Historical Complex

The Pasir Salak Historical Complex is located in Pasir Salak, Perak. It was opened in 2004 to commemorates the extraordinary history of Pasir Salak and its brave warriors. Among these warriors are Seputum, Datok Sagor and Datuk Maharajalela.

Pasir Salak plays an important role in the development of the Malay nationalism. This is the place where the flames of Malay nationalism had first stirred. The attempt made by British Resident of Perak, J.W.W Birch to eradicate the influence of the Malay leaders had started the rebellion towards the British occupation that led to his assassination in 1875.

The historical complex sits in a pleasant compound of traditional Malay buildings which together form a museum that overlooks the Perak River. It features various memorials in the shape of a sundang (broad sword) erected to honor the warriors, a historical time tunnel which is also the main attraction of the complex, the burial site of Seputum who assassinated J.W.W Birch and the lela rentaka which is a type of cannon used by the Malays at that time.

Other attractions at the complex include a watch tower, Belotah stage, traditional Perak houses called Rumah Kutai, a wooden mosque and Datuk Maharaja Lela’s fort.
